The Mint Hotel, Glasgow

The Mint Hotel in Glasgow has recently been re-branded. It used to be the City Hotel. You know the City Hotel? On the banks of the Clyde? Yes. That one. It’s now The Mint Hotel though. Everything has been spruced up and changed. They’ve not changed the name of the restaurant though. No. Clearly that would be a reckless step too far. The restaurant is still the City Cafe and damn fine it is too.
I had a lovely prawn cocktail starter, followed by sea-bass with a chorizo and chick-pea cassoulet which was delicious. The waiter also recommended a very nice red Sancerre which I’d never had before.
He insisted I have a glass of wine with lunch as I watched the unfolding storm outside, terrified the Christmas tree on the deck outside was about to blow in through the window. I was assured it was bolted down but given that I was in Glasgow the day everyone was sent home from work for the terrible tornado I was frightened.
The staff at the hotel are lovely and had no problem letting me have an early check in and switching me rooms when the first one I checked into had twin beds. Does anyone favour twin beds these days?
The refurb has really freshened the place up and the bathrooms look like bathrooms you’d put in your own house rather than cheapy hotel bathrooms – nice tiles and solid shower doors and soap dishes.
The room also has an Apple iMac TV which was great (once I’d figured out how to operate it).
I had to ask for a robe but it was one of the the nice fluffy ones.
Ooh and it’s also worth pointing out that they have an exercise room which is fairly basic but staying at The Mint entitles you to use Green’s Gym across the road. As a hotel resident you also get discount at the salon there so you can even squeeze in a leg-wax.

Clydeside

Bisccuits: Poor. Marmalade cookie? I gave mine away.

Tea and Coffe: Yes and a good selection.

Toiletries: The White Company. The shower gel was exceptionally nice but bring your own conditioner. The 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner doesn’t work for me.

Extras: Nice mending kit and there was an ironing board should you fancy ironing.
No complimentary water.
